Cassandra Leung is a Reckoner trainer—that is, a trainer-in-training. In other words, she disciplines the ocean-dwelling, lab-grown creatures to imprint on the ships of their human counterparts and to protect them from the pirates that overrun the NeoPacific. But her first solo mission is less than smooth. Cas is kidnapped by merciless, power-thirsty pirate queen, Santa Elana, who has designs of her own.
