The Year We Learned to Fly

“Use those beautiful and brilliant minds of yours. Lift your arms, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and believe in a thing. Somebody somewhere at some point was just as bored you are now.”

One sunless, unexciting day, a brother and sister—coaxed by their grandmother —tap into a generations long tradition of day-dreaming. The siblings close their eyes and suddenly they are miles and maybe even centuries from their upstairs apartment. They are sky-bound for somewhere brand new and somewhere oh so familiar all at once, and with folkloric hope as the gust beneath their winglets.
